Montgarnatx 2004

The 2004 Montgarnatx is a blend of 75% Garnacha and 25% Carignan from relatively young vines planted in a challenging terroir yielding less than a ton of fruit per acre. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged for 8 months in used French oak. Dark ruby/purple in color, the wine gives off lovely aromas of cedar, cinnamon, kirsch, blueberry, and licorice. This is followed by a full-bodied wine with ripe, plummy, balsamic and blue fruit flavors of superb intensity, lots of depth, and a long, pure finish. Cellar this tasty wine for 2-3 years and enjoy it for a decade thereafter." The Wine Advocate, 93 Points

Francesc Sanchez Bas is an agricultural engineer who certifies organic viticultural practices for the Spanish government and teaches agriculture at the University of Tarragona. He owns the vineyards that formerly supplied old-vine grapes to the winery Fra Fulco, and has been bottling world class Priorat under his own label since 1996. His wines express the depth and concentration of the Priorato’s Garnacha and Carinena, and his 2004 Montgarnatx was one of the highest rated for the price in the vintage.

Ik heb hem enkele jaren geleden €25 betaald .... alles zit goed met uitzondering van de alcohol die iets te hoog is, licht storend ... qua body is dit een stapje hoger t.o.v. wat je verwacht van een Priorat rond de €25
Ik geef hem 92p maar zal hem niet meer kopen.

Nochtans was 2004 een heel goed jaar in de streek dacht ik..?

Ja, maar geen bewaarjaar, dat heb ik ook ondervonden met de Clos Mogador 2004 en de Cal Pla Mas den Compte Planots 2004.
Garnacha/Grenacha heeft zo zijn beperkingen al heb ik het gevoel dat ze er in de Zuidelijke Rhone iets beter tegen kunnen!

Keek nog eens naar de tasting notes die je eerder postte en inderdaad, zowel Parker als Suckling spreken van drinken binnen de 10 jaar..
